81. Key Habits of Highly Effective Content Creators with Marguerite Bravay
We are featuring a fellow Berliner this podcast episode. Marguerite Bravay is a French-Canadian content creator who settled in Berlin a couple years ago after living in places like Australia, New York City, and Switzerland. She has been making travel based content for years, but began her latest project, Berlin & Around, at the start of the pandemic. Even though most travel-related industries were not thriving during this time, this female entrepreneur had faith in her work and decided to leave her 9 to 5, take the plunge, and become a full time travel creator.
Listen to our podcast episode to learn how she successfully grew her travel blogging business during COVID, what being an entrepreneur in Berlin is like, and how she uses social media sites like Facebook and Instagram to drive traffic to her website. In this blog post we're focusing on five habits she follows in order to be an effective content creator. Listen to our podcast episode for the full details.
Figure Out A Work Schedule
As a travel content creator Marguerite’s schedule can vary drastically. She spends most of her time based in Berlin, but has busy periods when she’s invited on work trips around Europe, or choosing to travel on her own. In order to stay on top of her work she chooses to follow the route of many content creators and content batch.
For those of you who aren’t familiar with the term, content batching is a productivity technique where you create specific content during a certain period of time, typically switching off each day or every few hours. To keep her schedule optimal Marguerite makes the clever decision to switch off each week between content creating and business.

Be Prepared For The Business Aspects
Marguerite describes work as a content creator as 30% content creation and 70% business. This ranges from admin, sales, marketing, networking, and more. If you are a content creator then you are also an entrepreneur and founder of your own creation. If you lack strategy and a business mindset when approaching content creation then it’ll only get more overwhelming in the long run so it’s good to enter with goals that make sense for you.
Think Quality Over Quantity
Social media platforms like Facebook, Instagram, and Tiktok are great for building your brand and creating a community. When growing your community it’s important to always keep in mind quality over quantity. It can be easy to get lost in the numbers game, but a smaller engaged audience will take you much further than a larger uninterested one.
Some Tips for Engaging With Your Community:
Consistency is key. Whether it's four times a week or once a month, content consistency establishes credibility and allows your audience know what to expect from you.
Respond to your followers. Let your audience know you’re someone they can connect with. Whether it’s responding to comments and DMs or posting polls on your Instagram story to see what they might be interested in, engagement builds trust.
Have a friendly environment. No matter what your message is, let it be a little escape from the outside world and a place people want to continue to return to.
Think Bigger Than Social Media
Social Media like Instagram and Facebook is where you build your community. How do you actually find your community though? Marguerite advises learning Pinterest and SEO strategy. Understanding keyword research, how search engines work, terms like crawling, indexing, ranking, etc. will help you create and perfect a marketing strategy.

Build A Core Community With a Newsletter
As important as it is to utilize social media, you never know what’s coming next. Algorithms change, certain social media sites lose popularity, and the platform can even be shut down (we’ve seen it happen before).
With a newsletter, you’re in charge. You can reach your people, build a core community, and always make sure people find out about what’s coming next.
